Stein, Martina (nee O'Reilly), age 99, of Millbrae, CA passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, alongside her loving husband. Martina was born in Roscommon, Ireland on February 25, 1927 to James and Mai O'Reilly (nee Rafferty). She grew up in Ireland with her beloved sisters and brother who preceded her in death: Margaret Mary (Sr. Agnes RSM),
Bridget Nuala (Sr. Philomena SSHJM), Eleanor, and Patrick. Two of her sisters devoted their lives to religious service as Catholic sisters. In 1962, Martina immigrated to New York CIty and eventually settled in San Francisco California. There she met the love of her life, Richard Stein. The two were married on August 31, 1963 beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted 62 years. Together Richard and Martina built a life centered on family. They raised two sons, John Patrick (Colleen) of St. Louis, MO and David (Donna) of Danville, CA with deep love and strong values. Martina was a devoted mother and cherished Nana to her seven grandchildren: Kathleen, Kevin, Sean, Brendan, Erin, Mary, and Patrick, all of whom adored her. She is also survived by dear nephews, Gerard, Mark, Patrick and Paul O'Reilly, many cousins and friends. Faith was at the center of Martina's life. A lifelong Catholic, she remained devoted to her faith and instilled those values in her family. Her devotion shaped the lives of her children and grandchildren. Martina was known for her warmth, wit, and gift for conversation. She had a way of making people feel welcome and heard, and she was rarely at a loss for a good story or thoughtful remark. She was also admired by her granddaughters for her timeless sense of style and elegance carrying herself with grace and confidence throughout the years.
Services: Visitation and rosary, Monday, March 30, 7:00 PM, at Chapel of the Highlands, Millbrae. Funeral Mass, March 31, 11:00 AM at St. Dunstan Catholic Church, Millbrae. Donations in Martina's honor can be made to St. Dunstan Catholic Church.
