Mary Gibbons Obituary

Mary Gibbons
Mary died on Thursday Morning, May 8th 2025, with her family around her at her home in the Richmond District. She was 93 years old and a Resident of San Francisco.
She was born in 1932 in Cappagh, Barna, Galway, Ireland, the eldest child of Dan & Sarah Feeney and the sister of Bart, Anne, Tessie, and Tommy. She emigrated to Boston. Some years later, while on vacation in San Francisco with her friend Julia, she decided to stay. She loved the City and its climate.
She first saw her husband, Ray, at a Gaelic Football match @ Balboa Stadium in San Francisco; she met him shortly after that at a benefit dance at Picketts in the Mission District. The two were married within a year and made the Richmond District of San Francisco and Westport Ireland their home. She is pre-deceased by Ray, married 45 years, she is survived by her children Catherine, Geoffrey, Daniel, and Raymond, her daughters-in-law Christine, Monika, and Shannon, and her Grandchildren John, Andrew, Kaila, Kilian, Maeve, and Órla.
Mary was a devout Catholic who believed absolutely in the power of prayer. She led by example, showing others that faith, hard work, and fortitude are pillars of a successful life.
Friends are invited to attend her Vigil Service Wednesday May 14th at 5:30pm and her Funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Thursday May 15th at 10:00am (Both At) St. Monica Church, 24th and Geary. Her burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
