Mary Rodriguez Obituary

Mary Rodriguez
October 5, 2023
Mary Ellen (Leadholm) Rodriguez
March 16, 1944 - October 5, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Rodriguez, on October 5th. She is leaving behind a legacy of boundless love for her family, a fierce loyalty to her friends, an impactful teaching career, and a passion for life that touched the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
Mary was born on March 16,1944, to Benjamin Carlton Leadholm and Marion Ella Swenson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her degree at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. She married the love of her life, Ron Rodriguez and moved to the Bay Area in 1969 where she began her family and continued her teaching career.
Mary was an incredible Mother to Matthew (Sarah) and Leah (Patrick Schrickel). She was the best Grandma to Amelia, Ronnie, Mateo and Elias. Also an incredible sister to her siblings, Ben, Peter, and Sara. Sister in law to Bob and Jan Seeley, and Don and Rhonda Rodriguez. She was a loved Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a loyal friend to many people and cherished by all.
Mary taught many in the San Leandro Unified School District beginning at Halcyon Elementary, James Monroe Elementary, Washington Elementary, Bancroft Middle School, and finally at Lighthouse, an independent study high school. As a teacher, she not only instilled a love for learning in her students but encouraged them to be their best selves. She knew how to make students feel valued and to value others.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on November 11th. If you would like to join us, please email [email protected] for more information. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be sent to the Ron and Mary Rodriguez Scholarship Fund, benefitting student athletes at the high school in honor of our parents' lifelong commitment to education, their unwavering love of sports, and their desire to give back to their community. Mrs. Rodriguez was my 4th grade teacher at Halcyon 1970. I was part of a group of kids that were bused from Marina Faire. She was one of my favorite teachers I had in the SLUSD. I remember your father coming to class one day and we were so excited to meet a professional baseball player. My condolences to the family.

I grew up with Rodriguez family my dad and Ron taught at American high they were best friends which our families became close. Mary was so fun and energetic it was always good time with Rodriguez. I will miss her sense of humor and the love Mary had for life in general. This is great loss to our family. Matt and Leah I think of you both each and everyday. Your mom was classy fun person that always had huge smile and the best sense of humor.
