Mary Dominica Scardaci passed away peacefully on January 3 after a brief illness. Born on June 8, 1914 in Priocca Italy, Mary immigrated to America with her father Sabino Bariona and mother Margarita Grasso Bariona. Her sensitivity, warmth and sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mrs. Scardaci grew up in San Francisco attending Jean Parker Elementary School and Lick Wilmerding High School. Mary received her professional medical assistant training followed by a long career in San Francisco, San Rafael and Corte Mardera. An avid tennis player, she met her husband Anthony Scardaci on the courts in North Beach where they lived and raised their family for many years. Tony and Mary moved to San Anselmo in the early 1950 and Mary enjoyed raising her children, playing the piano, and was an active volunteer with a wide circle of friends and neighbors. Tony and Mary retired to Graeagle California in 1975 where they enjoyed the beauty of Plumas County, fishing and hiking in the Lakes Basin Area. Tony passed away in 1980 and Mary remained in their mountain home for 25 years enjoying family visits, travel, and friends. Mary will be long remembered as an avid gardener and for graciously sharing her creative crafts, needle point and remarkable talents as a seamstress. Moving to Healdsburg in 2005 to be with family, she often remarked Sonoma County was just like being in Italy and enjoyed walking in wooded parklands and vineyards.
Mrs. Scardaci is survived by her son Tony Scardaci and daughter-in-law Leslie of Clyde, NC and her daughter Rita Scardaci and son-in-law San Radelfinger of Healdsburg; grand children Christine Newlin, MaryAnn Hardeman, Jennifer McGarr, Kathleen Colman, Brenda Solis, Brook Radelfinger, Brandy Shaw; and great grandchildren Jack and Amelia Hardeman, Henry, MaryBeth and William Newlin, Isabel, Marcela and Emilia Arce, Hailey, Andrew, and Sophia Colman, Alisha and Jenna Solis, Jen Shaw and Laurel Wallace. The family thanks Sutter Health Care at Home and Mary's care givers for their companionship and kindness. Mary's family will celebrate her life this summer in Graeagle. Memorial donations may be made to Sutter Hospice, 110 Stony Point Road, #200, Santa Rosa CA 95401.
