Michael Bishop Obituary

Michael David Bishop
April 4, 1954 - August 14, 2023
It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of our Dad, Michael David Bishop, who left us on August 14, 2023. He is survived by his sons, Bryan and Adam, and his three granddaughters, Tristan, Marley and Tessa. Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and his passing has left his loved ones with an unfillable void.
Born on April 4, 1954, in San Francisco, Mike's love for his family was perhaps only eclipsed by his love for the USC Trojans and the Golden State Warriors. He traveled to Los Angeles regularly to attend USC home football games, and was at each home game of the 1975 NBA Finals. He regularly described the raucous Golden State crowd as "The loudest I ever heard." Confounding his devoutly loyal LOCAL sport fans Family and Friends, Mike enjoyed following and cheering on the StL Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.
Aside from a deep love and appreciation of Music, perhaps Mike's greatest passion was barbecue. Mike was a self-taught pitmaster and needed very little arm-twisting to fire up his barbecue(s). He spent hours tending to the smoker, and his famous burgers, tri tip, pulled pork and Thanksgiving turkey were the stuff of legend.
Mike was known for his loyalty and dedication to his family and friends. He took great pride in mowing his own lawn while wearing an old, red, brimless, polka-dotted cap that practically begged to be mercifully thrown into the trash with the lawn clippings. Often playfully accusing others of being an overly-sentimental "mush pot," Mike was ironically a huge "mush-pot" himself. He was sweet, kind-hearted, easy-going, and always happy to lend a helping hand to a friend in need.
His life may have ended too soon, but Mike left an indelible impression on all those he encountered. His infectious laugh and quick wit were always a highlight at gatherings. He was a dear friend to all, he made anyone in his presence feel special, and he left an imprint on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, when you hear The Long and Winding Road or the smell of barbecue, please think of Mike Bishop.
