Michael Anthony Fleming, a lifelong San Franciscan, passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 65.
A native son of the Sunset District, Michael's deep roots in the neighborhood began at St. Anne's of the Sunset. It was there that he formed a circle of friends who remained his touchstone for more than sixty years.
Michael was a "jack of all trades" who experienced the city with a grit that most only read about. In his later years, Michael lived a rugged, complicated life. He was a survivor who walked a difficult path with a sharp wit and a defiant spirit.
He is survived by his siblings, Cynthia Fleming; Cathleen Navarro and her children, Adrian and Nikki; and Alan Fleming; his sister-in-law, Claudia, and their children, Bella and Nico; his daughter, Melissa Matute; and his cousins, Larry, Virginia, Justin, and Will Abbott, along with the lifelong friends who stayed by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Norma Fleming, and his brother, Charles Fleming Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Anthony's Foundation, reflecting Michael's life and his enduring spirit.
