Michael William Kannel

November 4, 1950 – March 30, 2017

Michael, 66, died in peace March 30, 2017 in his childhood home after a bout with cancer. He was born in San Francisco to Charlotte & Casper Kannel, Jr.

Michael was a shy, easygoing and kind man. He will be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor, creative inventions and his playful nature. He was passionate about his motorcycles and loyal to his friends & family. He worked as a machinist for near 40 years. During his 28+ years at Kosman's Specialties, Mike was the shop's fastest wheel lacer, earning the nicknames Ace & Ace Lace.

In 1987 he met Trace Hodgins, who worked near his shop. They married in 1992. Together, they enjoyed spending time with friends and Trace's large family, pampering their cats, improving their home, building their gardens, and exploring The City & beyond.
A man with many interests, Michael built motorcycles, created lamps, perfected cocktail recipes, smoked meats on his vintage Imperial Kamado, photographed, gardened, and grew his own coffee beans. He loved to relax in the garden with his cat.

Michael was preceded in death by his caring parents Casper & Charlotte, his beloved Granny, Elin Hunter, his adored nephew, Noah Hocherman and his many lovable pets.

He was a loyal husband to Trace, his devoted wife of nearly 25 years. Good-natured brother-in-law to Kathy (Sam) Jentile, Pam (Paul) Ledesma, Cliff (Zoe) Hodgins, Norah Hodgins, Connie Musallam, Brian (JoAnn) Hodgins, & Brad (Annette) Hodgins. Fun-loving uncle to 8 nieces & nephews, 9 great-nieces & -nephews. Grateful stepson to Evelyn Kannel of Bartlesville, OK, kind step-brother to Verna Brown, and gentle half-brother to David (Icy) Kannel, Alice (Mike) Hackmann, and Dan Kannel.
