Rumor has it that at the first Monterey Jazz Festival (1958), there was no curtain to close during set changes. Milt came up with the brilliant idea of turning the stage lighting from facing the stage to facing the audience, providing cover for the stage crew's work. Rest in peace, Milt Frankel.
