Mitchell Mullany Obituary

Mitchell Paul Mullany Beloved son and brother, passed away May 25, 2008 in Los Angeles from a diabetic stroke at age 39. Born September 20, 1968 in Concord, CA, he moved to Oakland, CA, when he was three and always considered Oakland his hometown. A born comedian, Mitch began doing stand-up comedy in the local clubs throughout the Bay Area. Later, taking his comedy on the road, he headlined in clubs across the country, coast to coast. He moved to L.A. in 1994, working as a comedian, television and film actor, writer and author. Respected and loved by his peers, a tribute to him was held June 8 at The Laugh Factory in Hollywood. Mitch loved to fish and he looked forward to renting a cabin in the Sierras for several weeks each year, spending relaxed time with his family and friends and fishing every day on the Truckee River with his brothers. He is survived by his mother, Alice Olivier and her husband, Barry; father, Frank Mullany; brothers, Matthew and Michael; sister, Colleen; nieces, Shane Mullany Banks and Trey Mullany Banks; maternal grandmother and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Forever in our hearts, his large family and legion of friends will remember Mitch always with love and laughter - there are a million Mitch-stories to be shared among us - he will bring laughter to us all forever. A Celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley on Sunday, July 6, 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.

I haven't thought of you in years, but just the other day, I was remembering the 1/2 hour comedy hour on MTV with Kal (hubby) and Margaret. That was a fun day/night. Here's a picture from the after-party that night. I'm sorry we lost touch - you were a fun & funny dude. I can't believe you're gone.

Goodness, I had no idea. I just wanted to pay my respects to a person whose comedy and acting I admired since I saw his routine on MTV 25 yrs ago or so. I was watching his 3 part standup on his YouTube page last night, subscribed to it, then Googled him this evening and read his obituary just now. I apologize for sounding like a computer geek, but I just want to say, what a talented man he was and I'm sure he's sorely missed by his family and friends. Peace...

I was at a reunion party recently in the Fruitvale area. We were talking about some of the people we knew from the neighborhood and what they were up to. Your name came up and they mentioned that you had passed away. I was shocked and saddened. I started thinking about how you always made us crackup when we were kids and then you made a career of it. Now that you are in Heaven, it wouldn't surprise me if you were making everyone crackup up there. Take care Mitch.
