Natasha Holmes Obituary

Natasha Maria Leigh Holmes Beloved elder daughter of Ken and Suzanne, sister of Marissa, passed away at home in San Francisco in the arms of her parents. Natasha challenged a merciless brain tumor for five years with dignity and grace.
Natasha was a gentle soul, gen- erous to the many people she loved, with an artist's eye and empathy for anyone she con- sidered vulnerable. She mod- eled resilience as her beautiful body endured the ravages of chemo, radiation and surger- ies. She taught us to forgive people if they didn't live up to our hopes and that good manners also meant thanking the phlebotomist who had to use her single battered vein to draw blood. We miss you des- perately, our sweet Natasha.
The family wishes to thank friends and neighbors, the staff at UCSF and Holy Name school and church. For more information: www.firstgiving. com/suzanneleigh

Natasha was a beautiful soul, so brave and composed in the face of such a challenge. I never got to teach her, but I remember her bright face at school, and how much love she got from her family and the Sunset Community.

Sitting on your memorial bench at Pine Lake, I just learned about you. Eleven years after leaving, you continue to touch and inspire a total stranger. An 80 year old grandmother who learns from you , admires you, and feels the absence of you in you family and the world. Thank you for being here.

Chemo made her so thin, a feeding tube was considered. Later, like many cancer kids, she needed steroids, which causes excessive bloating.

Natasha, your greatest joy was making others happy. We are blessed to have had you in our lives. I shall look to the stars with you in my heart "for perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven where your love pours through and shines down upon us to let us know that now, you are happy." I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. With love,

Natasha, you exemplified the love of learning that every teacher dreams of. When you learned to sew on a button, you came back later with a sweater of buttons that you had sewn on. Natasha was the dearest presence at SummerGATE this year. We would walk together between classes, sharing snippets of our lives. It was only a matter of days we spent together, but her gentle grace lingers. One sensed the love she was surrounded with. What a gift you as a family gave us all.

Dear Natasha – I never had opportunity to meet you, but I followed your story and was rooting for you every step of the way, like so many others. You are in the arms of angels now… they will take care of you and give you peace.
