Passed away in Daly City, CA on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, surrounded by her family. Ofelia was born on November 10, 1924 in Managua, Nicaragua. She was one of eight children of Damaso Padilla and Dolores Solis. Her parents and five of her siblings and her son Leslie predeceased her. She is survived by her remaining two brothers. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, her nephew Robert J. Padilla and many nieces and nephews. Ofelia came to the United States as a young adult and quickly found work at Levi Strauss Co., where she worked until her retirement. She was the matriarch of the family, having sponsored a number of family members to come to the United States. Over the years Ofelia opened her home to those who needed help. She enjoyed cooking Nicaraguan food for the family. She also enjoyed trips to Tahoe and Reno for a little gambling. When you asked her if she won she would always say, "I won the way back home."
Family and friends may call on Monday, July22nd after 3pm at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 2254 Market St., San Francisco 94114, where the Vigil Service will be at 7pm, and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 11am at Mission Dolores Basilica, Dolores St at 16th, with burial to follow at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA, where she will be laid to rest with her late husband Joe Balde.
