Oscar Peralta Obituary

Oscar Roy Peralta

Oscar Roy Peralta was born in Honolulu, HI, at Queens Hospital on June 30, 1929, to Virginia Julia Freitas and Oscar Pena-Peralta. He passed away peacefully on May 10, 2021, in San Francisco surrounded by his loving wife, four children, and grandchildren.
At the age of 10, Oscar and his family moved to San Francisco where he attended Aptos Middle School and Lincoln High School. After graduation, Oscar entered the US Navy where he served as a Sonarman and instructor, with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
After serving 20 years with the US Navy, Oscar worked for various technology firms until retirement. Once retired, Oscar became babysitter in chief for his many grandchildren and volunteered as a docent for over a decade at the USS Pampanito at Pier 45 in San Francisco.
Oscar gave communion to patients at St. Mary's Hospital on Sundays for over 30 years and was a devoted member of St. Emydius Parish.
In 1956, Oscar met Patricia Anne Tracy, and the following year they were married. Oscar and Patricia went on to have four loving children, Maureen, Ken, Laura, and Mary.
In 1995, Oscar's wife Patricia passed away after a struggle with pancreatic cancer. Oscar found love again in 2008 with Olivia Fiel Peralta, and the two were wed on March 29th, 2008.
Throughout his entire life, Oscar held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
Oscar joins his wife, Patricia Anne Tracy Peralta, his mother, Virginia Julia Freitas, and his sister, Lita Joy Peralta, in Heaven.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Olivia Fiel Peralta; his four children, Maureen Conway (Patrick Conway), Ken Peralta (Julie Peralta), Laura Peralta-Schulte (Doug Schulte), and Mary Peralta; and his grandchildren, Theresa Conway, Jerry Peralta, Brian Conway, Frankie Falzon, Elaine Peralta, Bridget Falzon, Kate Schulte, and Claire Schulte.

Due to Covid-19, a private service will be held for Oscar's family. A celebration of life will take place at the United Irish Cultural Center on May 13th at 2:00pm.

My family lived around the corner from the Peraltas and knew Mr. Peralta through his faith community at St. Emydius parish. We were among many who admired him and know that his role model lives on after his passing.

Oscar was an amazing person! He and his sister Lita have been my role models for how to grow older and have joy, fun, and a strong zest for living.

I was privileged to be part of the small faith group that he hosted along with Olivia from their home. He was a gracious and devoted to this group, ordering the books, sending out reminders, picking up group members, leading the discussion, and always making sure we had our tea, cookies and Weight Watcher fudgsicles! He was rock solid consistent in the group, which was the embodiment of his rock solid Faith in God.

His smiling face and hilarious sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Mr. Peralta, as we knew him as young people, embodied faith, was a great father, generous and gracious, and a tremendous model for all the kids in the neighborhood. Requiescat in Pace Mr. Peralta and may the Peace of Christ hold all your great children as they suffer this loss.

My deepest condolences to Oscar's family. He was a Sonarman, as was I. He was a long time member of the National Sonar Association. Our time in service somewhat overlapped, but I remember that we met at a Sonar event after his retirement and he was a very loyal member of the group.
