Paul Cruz Obituary

Paul Joseph Cruz
December 12, 1937 - February 7, 2022
Paul Cruz, great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully on Monday, February 7th, in Boise, Idaho, his home for the past 30 years.

Paul was born at St. Luke's Hospital in San Francisco on December 12, 1937, where he grew up in the Mission District. He was the youngest of three children to Sylvester Sr. and Edna (Wayne) Cruz. His sister, Sylvia (Bruno), and his brother, Syl Jr., all preceded him in passing.

In 1954, he met the love of his life, the former Myrna Scafidi, where they created a love story for the ages over the past 67 years. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps Reserves, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

Paul was a fine athlete, excelling in basketball, golf and tennis. His go-to hook shot was nearly unstoppable. In the 60's and 70's, he was a coach at Corpus Christi Grammar School, and later, he assisted the Tennis program at City College of San Francisco. He continued teaching tennis and golf to youth and college groups after his move to Boise.

Paul was a proud member of legendary Teamster Local 85, and after driving truck for several companies, was voted into Union office where he was a great friend and advocate for his Teamster brothers and sisters in his role as Dispatcher.

He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna, and his children Dennis (Shirley), Vicki Schaffer (Randy), Steve (Sheri), and Ken (Lori). He will be missed by his grandchildren- Jennifer Cruz, Stephanie Stewart (Jerremy) and Kevin Cruz, Lauren Dalton (Josh), Alyssa Flynn (Mitchell), and Chris Schaffer (Courtney Compton), Paul, Jimmy and Eva Cruz, and Jordan and Jacob Cruz. His great-grandchildren, Gabe and Samantha Stewart, and Carter Dalton remember him with love, as well as countless other relatives and friends.

"Paulie" was a friend to all. Always quick with a joke, or a kind word, he made friends wherever he went. He will be truly missed.

No public service is planned. Paul was a great believer in the powers of St. Jude. Any donation to St Jude's Children's Research Hospitals at www.stjude.org would be much appreciated.

Dad was a character for sure. We didn´t always see eye-to-eye but he loved all his wife and kids with a passion. It´s hard to believe we won´t see him again. I know he loved life but his body knew it was time. Love you Dad.
