Peter Block Obituary
Peter Lawrence Block died of Parkinson's disease on Weds., Jan. 13, age 71. He had been living at The Carlisle for many years, after other stints in the city, and Sebastopol. His parents were Sol and Alice Bransten Kauffman, and he was later adopted by George Block. Attended Madison School, Town School, Roosevelt Jr. High, Lowell High, and UC Berkeley (graduated with honors). He owned Orion Travel in the Castro with his longtime partner, the late Brian Allen. Passions were old-time ocean liners and cars, whippets, Egyptology, 'I Love Lucy,' and the Concorde plane. He leaves many cousins of the extended Haas-Lilienthal family who will miss his biting humor and loving nature. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Parkinson's Foundation or the National AIDS Memorial.

I’m so sorry to learn of Peter’s passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him when he lived at the Boulders in Tucson, AZ. He had a terrific sense of humor and was a very generous person. He took me on a few spins in his Porsche and Bentley. Rest peacefully dear Peter.

Saddened to hear of the passing of longtime family friend Peter. I have known him well over 50 years, and as an adolescent looked up to him. I will always have a fond memory of Peter taking me to my first Cal-Stanford game in 1970--a tradition I have carried on for 50 straight years now. You will be missed. Rest in peace, Peter....

I had the pleasure of being a caregiver for Mr. Block during my undergraduate years. We got along very well and always attended outings on the weekend when we could. He will be missed.

Peter was the son of my father's sister Alice. We grew up together in a large San Francisco family group. A family tradition was to celebrate Peter's birthday together every July 17th. We will miss Peter!
