Peter Alec Jacobi, resident of Mill Valley & Pauma Valley, CA passed away on Mar 19, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Beloved friend, respected leader, and esteemed colleague, he will be missed. Peter was born on Jan 29, 1944 in San Francisco, CA to Mira and Richard Jacobi. A San Francisco native, Peter's relatives first arrived in 1852. He grew up in St. Francis Wood, attended Lick Wilmerding High School and graduated from San Jose State University.
Peter enjoyed a long career with Levi Strauss, joining in 1970 as an entry-level production assistant. He quickly rose through the ranks with roles in manufacturing, sourcing, marketing and product management. His career included global leadership roles. In 1990, as President of Levi Strauss Europe, he was invited by then Prince Charles to join the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum.
Later, as President of Global Sourcing, he led the team that authored the first of its kind Global Sourcing and Operating Guidelines. These standards created requirements that prevented labor abuses, ensured a living wage, and prevented child labor.
His career culminated with his appointment to President and COO of Levi Strauss in 1996. After Peter's retirement from Levi's in 1999, he continued his career by joining the boards of directors of several corporate and non-profit organizations. Through these associations he advocated for worker's rights and spoke out against corporate greed, both of which were meaningful part of his platform throughout his career.
Peter was a true and loyal friend who loved hosting parties, singing karaoke and telling great stories. He was an avid golfer for his entire life, but also a good father who took a break from golf when children arrived to take up tennis. His short tennis career was highlighted by playing doubles in a fundraiser with John McEnroe.
During his time with Levi's, he was lucky enough to play golf in three AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-am tournaments with Jesper Parnevik as his partner. A strong team, they made The Cut in 1997 and were paired with Tiger Woods and Kevin Costner for the final round. Throughout his golfing career, he shot his age multiple times and hit two holes in one, the second of which included Clint Eastwood in his foursome.
Peter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary, three children: Robin Mosby (John), Jonathan Jacobi, and Bryan Jacobi (Pagerie), and five grandchildren: Timothy (14), Angelica (12), Eleanor (11), Hank (9) and Nicholas (9).
Cicero reminds us that "The life given us by nature is short, but the memory of a life well spent is eternal." Indeed, Peter leaves a legacy of friends and family around the world to carry on his values of character, love and loyalty.
