Peter Maffei Obituary

Peter William Maffei Born on April 26,1920 in South San Francisco. Pete Maffei passed away at 91 peacefully, with his family by his side, after a short fight against pneumonia. His mind was strong but his body had become weak. Pete has been a South City resident all his life and is married to his loving wife Louise for 63 years. He graduated from South San Francisco High with a football scholarship to USF where he studied business. Pete was all PAL in football. In WWII Pete served as a radio operator in the Army Air Force where he attained a sergeants rating. After the service he worked for awhile at the South San Francisco Meat Market. After which at 27, he opened Maffei's Mens' Wear. Pete owned and operated the shop for 40 years with his wife Louise. Besides friends and family Pete's passion in life was golf. He was a member of Green Hills County Club for 50 years and was playing up to just a few years ago. He was a charter member and still active member of the South City Young Men's Institute (YMI, est.1946) and loved his latest organization "The Opus Club". Pete is survived by is wife Louise Maffei and daughter Marcie Maffei. Niece Janet Battistini and Nephew Mark Battistini. Brother-in-law Joe and Frances Regalia, Niece Cheryl and Brian Pierson. He is preceded by his sister Elizabeth and Aldo Battistini and his Italian immigrant parents, Mother, Angelina Duri Maffei of Campiogne, Italy and Sante Maffei of Appella Italy. Pete had a way that was infectious. He was a prince of a man with charm and a kind heart and will be truly missed but never forgotten. We love you! A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday January 5th at 10:30 am in All Souls Church on 315 Walnut Avenue, South San Francisco, CA 94080. We met Pete and his lovely family on a Mexican cruise in October 2010. We became instant friends and enjoyed many good time with him after the trip. When we heard of Pete's passing we were so saddened. We had such a short time with him and we wished it could of been longer. We will certainly miss him. Our deepest condolences.

Pete's store was right next door to my father's restaurant. I remember how kind and sweet he always was to us. My Dad and him always joked around. My condolences to the family. Cleo and Nick Muchos

I will always remember walking into the men's shop when I was about 14 years old and asking for credit.Pete asked me how I was going to pay and I told him that I caddied at Cal golf club. He said ok and I had an open account through high school.Nobody would do that today.I'll miss you Pete
