Peter Mc Entee Obituary

Peter Mc Entee

December 23, 1928 - August 30, 2016

Peter Mc Entee was born in Ballybay, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, on December 23, 1928, and passed away on August 30th, 2016. He was a resident of San Mateo, CA.

Pete was one of fourteen children in his family. He follows Pat, Ed, Owenie, John, Barney, Ann, Mary and Betty, and is survived by Stephen, Kathleen, Teasie and Bridget.

Pete came to the US with Kathleen in 1954, and spent two years in the US Army, stationed in Germany during peacetime after the war. He became a US citizen in March 1955.

He got married to Breda O' Reilly in September of 1957, and is survived by four children: Elizabeth, Gary (Kristin) grandsons Kevin, Michael and Brian. Timothy (Kelly) grandchildren John, Catherine, Robert and Rebecca, and son Patrick.

Pete worked as a carpenter in San Francisco, then joined the San Mateo Fire Department in 1957, where he worked for twenty years. He retired at 50, then went into construction full time, eventually forming Mc Entee Construction in 1984. He retired again in 1990, and spent a lot of his time playing handball at the San Mateo Elks.

Pete spent his last twenty years socializing, watching his grandson Brian, reading and having a Guinness most days at 3pm. Pete lived a full life and was very active until the end.

The Rosary will be held at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's Funeral Home in San Mateo at 7pm on Thursday, September 1st, and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory Catholic Church on 28th & Hacienda in San Mateo at 10:30am on Friday, September 2nd, followed by a Graveside Service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Pete. I would often sit with Pete and have a Guinness or two and hear stories about his playing soccer (football) with my great uncle. He was often good for a laugh or two and would finish his second Guinness and would go home.

I will not be able to attend as I am in Ireland at this time. But be assured I will stop somewhere today and light a candle and say a prayer for Pete. RIP... Until we meet again!
