Peter Sartorio Obituary

Peter A. Sartorio
04/21/1932 - 08/08/2025
Peter A Sartorio of San Mateo, CA passed away peacefully on August 8th of natural causes, with his wife & best friend Jeanne by his side.
Born & raised in San Francisco's Marina District on April 21, 1932, to Josephine and Peter Sartorio, Pete was so proud of his Italian heritage - and never missed an opportunity to remind you he was an Italian from the Marina. San Francisco was part of who Pete was; so incredibly proud of his City & to be a local.
Pete graduated from Lowell High School and went on to study engineering at San Jose State. After school, he joined his Father in the family construction business, working together on Public and Negotiated projects all over the Bay Area. In 1971, Pete became chief estimator at Amoroso Construction, where he spent the next 40+ years doing what he loved - building. Quite literally, you couldn't drive from his home in San Mateo or his family's home in the Marina without passing at least one project that bore his fingerprints.
In 1965, Pete and his first wife, Inky, welcomed their son PJ Sartorio. Later, in 1989 Pete married Jeanne; his best friend, who taught him how to slow down, enjoy travel for the first time and the happiness & joy that Pets could bring.
Pete was truly one of the good ones - charming, a bit of a flirt, genuine, sweet and blessed with a great wit that could put anyone at ease. He loved animals - especially his dogs - and his empathetic heart and laugh made him a friend to everyone he met. His family, heritage, work and his City were his great prides and never missed a chance to chat/brag about them. He also loved Tahoe and skiing & spent many happy days on the slopes at Northstar.
Pete is survived by his wife Jeanne Sartorio; his son PJ Sartorio and daughter-in-law Tracy Sartorio; and his two granddaughters Sophia and Carly Sartorio. He is also survived by Jeanne's son Tom Oldknow and his wife Margaret; Jeanne's daughter Wendy Meagher and her partner Mark Palmatier and Wendy's daughters Ali & Andrea Meagher.
Those lucky enough to know Pete will remember his laugh, humor and twinkle in his eye when he was telling a story - he will be truly missed.
In honor of Pete; take a drive around the City, walk the Marina, have lunch in Northbeach and when you get home, spoil your dog with treats :)!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Yesterday

I had the privilege of working on a few of Pete´s projects over at Amoroso and later at the airport as a sub to Swinerton Builders. He was just a great guy and so knowledgeable in the building and construction industry!!!! A true city guy!!!
