Peter Taylor Obituary

Peter Taylor
August 22, 1944 - August 1, 2022
Peter Christopher Taylor was born in Portland, Oregon on August 22, 1944. Beloved uncle, beloved friend, he peacefully left this world the morning of August 1, 2022, at Saint Mary's Medical Center surrounded by loved ones in the days preceding. He was kind and gentle and had a ready smile. Through his creative adventures and work as a scientist, Peter was a mentor and great friend to many. We miss him very much.
Peter chose to enlist for service in Vietnam where he capably ran a clearing station, despite the "small and primitive lab, where we only had WWI equipment" for testing sick soldiers for malaria.
Once home, Peter got a degree in microbiology, then worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense isolating monkey viruses in San Francisco. He remained in the Cow Hollow neighborhood for the rest of his life. He also worked at the Department of Agriculture in the Western Human Nutrition Research Center.
Peter is survived by ten nieces and nephews who will honor his legacy: Annemarie, Catherine, Philippa; Philip, Gwendolyn, Kareylyn, Jeffrey, Lisa; Amelia, Suzanne. Cousins, Cozette Medill Matthews, and others. And, by dear friends, Ken & Susan Brown.
He was preceded in death by Albert Richards Taylor & Pauline Buckley, parents. By his four brothers, Buckley, Gordon, Sam, and Roger. Interment: National Cemetery, Dixon, CA, August 12, 2022. Many thanks to those whose camaraderie he enjoyed over the years, to mention a few: those with whom he shared a jewelry studio, and at Vesuvio, Christopher Elbow, Terzo, Rose's Café, and West Coast Wine & Cheese.

I only know of Peter through his collection but I can tell he was my type of person and we would have been fast friends.

Peter was my neighbor across the hall for 25 years.
He was a friend and trusted
Contact.. we had good laughs over the years. He was genuinely happy for people when they did well.
Fell in love ..or were enjoying their lives. .. he would always say "good for them!" he always put a vintage stocking at Christmas time.. hung on his outside of his door.
It was not there this year..
What a loss

Peter was my closest friend and confidant for three decades. He was my scientific antique guru. He willingly shared his bountiful knowledge and passion of antiques, wine and fine dining. Peter was always there for me, offering his help whenever needed. Peter loved his family. The many times we went to Brimfield he'd always set a day aside to visit his relatives.
I will miss you Peter, you were truly an amazing friend.

I only had the opportunity to get to know Peter recently. We had dinner together and I heard some of his stories and had the chance to be exposed to his gentle and kind nature. I could tell he was a good man and I loved to hear about his passion for antique microscopes and chronometers. I wish I would have met him earlier.
