Phillip Buckley Obituary

Surrounded by family, Phillip "Phill" Buckley passed away on September 18, 2025. Born in San Francisco on August 2, 1957, Phill was the third of six children of Jack and Mary Buckley. He grew up in the Sunset District and was a proud graduate of St. Cecilia and Sacred Heart High School. Phill joined the San Francisco Fire Reserve in 1999 dedicating more than 25 years of service. Rising to Commander in 2012, he led with compassion, commitment, and integrity until his retirement in 2024. His leadership helped many Reservists launch successful careers in the Fire Service. Family was at the heart of Phill's life. He cherished his role as an uncle and great-uncle, never missing a birthday or a chance to cheer on his nieces and nephews at their sporting and school events. His thoughtfulness and quiet generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He found joy on the golf course and mountain biking trails of Twain Harte, in cheering for the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, and at concerts at the Fillmore and the Warfield. Phill is survived by his siblings and brothers-in-law Sharon (Tom) O'Kane, Larry Poggetti, Beverly (Jeff) Guzzetta, Barbara (Steve) Bushner, and Bernadette Wildgans, his nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He has been reunited with his parents, his sister Maureen Poggetti, his brother-in-law Mike Wildgans, and his favorite cousin Johnny Voelker in heaven.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Avenue, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program. www.sffirefighterstoys.org

To the Buckley family, I Was sad to read of Phill's passing, just a great easy going guy. I'm glad I saw him a couple months ago while shopping at Lunardi's. I will keep Phill and your families in my prayers.
