Phlip Vukicevich Obituary

Philip "Vuk" Vukicevich 1926 - 2010 Passed away in Petaluma, February 17, 2010, at the age of 79. Dearly beloved husband of Edie Vukicevich. Loving father of Matt Vukicevich and his wife Eileen of Kenwood; and Lisa Geoffrion and her husband David of Petaluma. Adored grandfather of Eric, Daniel, Nate, Andrew, Jacqui and Lauren. Dear brother in law of Ken and Evelyn Haupt. Phil was born in San Francisco on January 9, 1931. A native of San Francisco, CA, age 79. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Vuk is a graduate of the University of San Francisco where he played basketball, earning All American honors in 1953. He later coached basketball at USF for 11 years and was the basketball promotion manager for Adidas for 20 years. In 1953, Vuk married Edith Swan, who taught him to appreciate love and fine food. He was a lifelong jock and member of the USTA who enjoyed German automobiles, Mexican Food, French tennis and a good bottle of Zin. Vuk was a man who, above all else, truly valued his family and friends. He will forever be remembered as someone who always encouraged his family, as well as his players, to be leaders, not followers. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. To Edie,Matt,Lisa and all the grandkids. Phil was a very special person to me. I met Phil when he first joined adidas and we became immediate friends. We worked together for over 10 years. We went out to lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant(Pedros) nearly everyday. Usually had a margarita on the rocks to wash the food down! Phil always insisted on picking up the tab, which worked for me. Phil would do anything for his friends, who I knew he had so many. I wish he would have let me beat him at tennis just once, but he gave me so much and I will always fondly remember him for so many things. My best memory of Phil is that he loved and adored his family. He was a very special person. God bless, and we we're all lucky to have had some of Phil in our lives!

To the Vukicevich family. I remember playing against Phil when I was at Galileo High School. He was not only a great player, but a class guy! I quess it has been a number of years since I ran into Phil at a Hanna Boys golf tournament. He always had a smile for you and was glad to see you. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. God Bless, Ralph Cicurel
