Randolph Arczynski Obituary

Randolph Nimrod Arczynski Passed away at his home in San Francisco on Friday, February 4th. Born June 9, 1944 in Turlock, California, he was the devoted son of Annie Malick Arczynski and William Arczynski. Randy was raised in Modesto and graduated from Downey High School and continued his studies at San Francisco State University. As a young man he worked as a Vice President for Bank of California while still pursuing his education. Though he never completed his degree, he was largely self-educated through his voracious reading and study of antiques, Asian art, textiles, architecture, and design. His love of all things beautiful led him to found in 1971, with his partner Howard Hein, what soon became one of the premier design showrooms in San Francisco, Randolph & Hein. The company was in the forefront of presenting the work of leading designers such as John Dickinson, Leavitt & Weaver, Cedric Hartman, Michael Taylor, as well as international textile collections. During his long career and even after he retired from the company in 2009, Randy gave generously of his time and talents to numerous organizations and events in San Francisco that set a high standard for the design world and supported educational causes in the City. For more than 25 years he chaired the Design Advisory Board of San Francisco Decorator Showcase which has generated millions of scholarship dollars for deserving students. Randy also was a trusted and essential advisor to the Fall Antiques Show where his input and knowledge were invaluable. He helped establish the Designer's Committee of the show and enjoyed knowing that the event benefited young people through Enterprise for High School Students. His leadership and support inspired and encouraged a generation of designers and architects through his readiness to mentor them and champion their work. His kindness, generosity and devoted friendship will be missed by many. Randy is survived by his devoted sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Curtis Hennings, nephew, Tyson Hennings, niece, Allyson McCandless, her husband Michael McCandless, and their daughter, Gabrielle. He was an adored and loving brother and uncle. He is also survived by his partner of many years Paul Masson. A private family burial will be held in Turlock on February 14th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: San Francisco University High School - Financial Aid, 3065 Jackson St., San Francisco, CA 94115, Attention: T. Foster.

Randy,
Dear boss, dear friend, dear guide and mentor; you left us far too soon. There were still colors to be selected, fabrics to be chosen, designs to be created and style to be shared. So many will miss you. So many will mourn you. But I will miss the gentle man with the spritely twinkle, the knowing eye and the keen mind. I will miss the man who honored me by giving a cherished part of his industry and style, his beloved Textiles, into my hands and heart for safekeeping, these past 24 years. There are no thanks great enough for that trust, and that joy. There are not words enough to honor your memory. There is only love.

Randy,
I continue to be touched deeply by the
years that you were a part of my life
and for these years, I am eternally
grateful. Though your mortal light
may have been extinguished, the light
of your gentle spirit continues to brighten
the heavens and the hearts
of all who knew you.

Randy,
With your and hand and heart, you guided many.
With your passion, you opened the door for many more.
May you find peace and rest from the things you could not control.
Your spirt remains, always.
