Raymond Bright Obituary

Raymond Easton Bright Jr. Died on August 31st 2011 at the age of 80 in Napa, California. He was a devoted husband of Marcelle Bright (Cluzeau), who passed away in 2005. He is survived by two brothers and their wives; Michael & Jane Bright, and George & Nancy Bright. Raymond was born in Ballard, Washington on July 5th 1931 to parents Raymond and Emily Bright. He was raised in Renton, Washington and graduated from Renton High School, where he received a scholarship to Yale University. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, he then joined the United States Navy and served overseas during the Korean War. Upon discharge he attended Stanford Law School, received his Degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence and moved to San Francisco to become a resident of Potrero Hill. Raymond practiced Law in San Francisco specializing in personal injury litigation while investing in and developing property. A major accomplishment was the development of a complete block of land, now called Victoria Mews that contains 87 condominiums that adhere to the Victorian nature of his beloved city. After several years of a successful law practice and community involvement, his business interests turned to the management of his properties. His personal interests included travel, boating, tennis, golf, friends and family. He belonged to several organizations associated with the legal profession and the Potrero Boosters and Merchant Association. Ray and his wife Marcelle loved to travel visiting many sights around the world, but they also ensured their travels included family visits during the holidays. While their interests varied, a major focus was to ensure the environment would remain a beautiful and supporting place for mankind. To that end, they have established the WJ Fund, to be administered by Leland Stanford Junior University that will annually reward an individual from regions around the world, for a significant achievement in support of the preservation of the environment and global sustainability. A process they hope will make this world a better place for those that follow. At Ray's request a private burial service was held at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa, CA. on September 6, 2011. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the WJ Fund at Leland Stanford Junior University.
