Raymond Mapa Obituary

Raymond J. Mapa
08/31/1942 - 11/15/2024
Raymond J. Mapa of Daly City, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024. He was born in Iloilo City, Philippines by Felix C. Mapa, MD and Virgilia Vargas on August 31, 1942.
Raymond immigrated to the United States in 1946 with his family on the USS Gordon. His parents settled in San Francisco where he attended St. Monica School and St. Ignatius High School. He was a Don at the University of San Francisco and he continued his education at Golden Gate University where he received his Master's Degree in Business Administration.
Raymond worked for the federal government for 41 years, holding various positions advancing to Director and Senior Property Manager. His last station was at the Phillip Burton Federal Building and US Courthouse in San Francisco.
Raymond married Emma Balanga who was his loving partner for 59 years. A family man first, Raymond and Emma had four children: Christopher (Maria Danao), Felipa (David Ruddy), Renee (Edouard LeFevre) and Angela (Andrew Foland). His greatest joy came from spending time with and caring for his seven grandchildren: Raymond, Emma, Virgil, Felix, Jack, Simon, Benito, and Edouard.
In retirement, Raymond was passionate about the Barrio Relief Foundation, a non-profit organization that he founded with his sisters, Virgilia and Dolores. On behalf of the foundation, he collected donations and sent them to the Philippines.
Raymond was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, godfather, teacher, mentor, basketball coach, and friend to many. He volunteered for many roles in his community, and his death leaves a void in the lives of his family as well as the Daly City and San Francisco communities.
Raymond was predeceased by his siblings: Sister Marina Mapa, Josefa Norona, Felix Mapa, Ophelia Mapa, Margarita Ramos and son-in-law Edouard LeFevre. He is survived by his wife, Emma Balanga; sisters, Virgilia Mapa and Dolores Keefe; his children and their families.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Duggan's Serra Mortuary at 500 Westlake Avenue in Daly City on Thursday, November 21, from 4-8 pm with a Rosary Vigil at 6 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Name of Jesus Church at 1555-39th Avenue on Friday, November 22 at 11 am followed by Burial at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma.
