I first met Ray when I was a 12 year old Boy Scoiut. Ray remained a significant friend the rest of my life . Rat and my parents were close friends . Ray regularly would drop off a box of fresh veggies to my mom . It was like Christmas for her . I owe much to Ray Ratto .

As long time family friends, I was so saddened to here of the passing of another truly wonderful fun loving man, in Ray Ratto Sr. There couldn't be a nicer or more giving man on the face of the earth. I am the last with the Gamenara name in the United States, but on behalf of the entire Gamenara family, may I say that Ray will be sorely missed. Waiting on Ray and his family at Pier 29 was always a highlight of my day. He always had a smile and kind words. Seeing him after I retired was always a treat, Having dinner with him and the DelMasso's was so enjoyable. He will be missed and was very loved. Pam Caponio (Alameda)

Heaven's gain is our loss on earth. Ray was a wonderful, happy man with a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his lips. Hospitality was his metier - the food, the wine, the hugs - and he was good at those slow dances too!
Ray was a dear friend to my late husband, Jim Pattillo, many years ago. I will never forget the many kindnesses Ray showed us as he drew us into his large, welcoming family.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter the Lord's joy and the loving embrace of your family and friends who were waiting for you.

Ray was really a great guy and a true gentlemem. I will always treasure our times playing Pedro at his beautiful home and at Woody Paynter's (where we first met). We will also cherish our many vacations with Ray & Eleanor. Ray was the most generous man we ever met (he would not let you buy a drink). He will truly be missed by his family and his many friends.

To my cousin Ray I will never forget our Family Water Skiing adventure to Lake Shasta back in the 70's you are the only one I know that did not need an Alternator or a reverse on his Outboard Boat Engine just lot's of spare battieries!! Wow lot's of fun memories at the Silver Lake Camping adventures as well. You were an inspiration to all and never gave up on any project. With love to all my Cousins Family and Friends. Bobby Long

My condolences to the Ratto Family, and to the many people who loved Ray. I picture Ray right now, twinkle in his eyes, amusing St. Peter with a funny little story. It has been wonderful to read about Ray and the many people and organizations to whom he reached out and helped. I will always remember how he reached out to his cousin, my mom, and became, along with his brothers, such an important, supportive part of her life. Ray was an inspiration for us all, and a beautiful example in his commitment to family and community.

To the Ratto Family and Eleanor,
We haven't found the words to adequately describe this special person. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Ray always made it a point to take care of us, whether it was with a watermelon from the trunk of his car to the happiness he spread around the neighborhood. We loved the always present big smile and clever words. He will be greatly missed.

Ray, I hope you are out there celebrating with your family and friends. What a precious life you lived here on Earth, and how many lives you touched. You are a true angel, and I know many people are better and "sunnier" for having known you. I too will always remember the twinkle in your eye...and the stories you told. You always made me and Jim feel loved and special. I also want to thank the family for all you have done for our parents. You were there for them 150%. Bless you all. Say hi to my dad Ray. So sorry for you lost. Ray was a wonderful man with a large heart. He and my dad (John Fazio) were best of friends. I know they are both in heaven right now getting ready to plant next years crop of basilico and lettuce. Thank you Ray for everything you did for us.

I'll always remember when I was a young boy and my Dad Bernie would go to visit his Uncle Tony, and our cousins Eddy and Ray. The cherries would come out and I'd get to listen to the stories. And how many times would Ray show up to my Mom and Dad's with boxes of basilico that Don and I would get the call to come over and make Pesto for the year. Once I started in with my work with non-profits, if I ever needed anything, Ray would donate it. Just two weeks ago I called Sue to find out some information about Len Ratto the baseball player and when Ray heard it was me on the phone, he made sure Sue asked me if I needed anything. Ray was a wonderful cousin and a great man, and I will miss him. I am very sorry that I will miss the Rosary and Funeral as I travel tomorrow to Eureka for work and won't be home until Thursday, late afternoon. I will be thinking about him though, and hope that he and Dad are having a cherry and telling stories.

Best Uncle a nephew could ever have. He always had a smile and a story to tell us in our younger days. As we grew older, he was very wise in his advice to us.

Ray and his family did so much for our family. My fondest of many memories of Ray was when he and my father accompanied Boy Scout Troop 89 on a 50-mile backpack trip in the High Sierras in 1970.
