Reneé Cohen Obituary

Reneé J. Cohen
March 19, 1945 - November 8, 2021
Reneé J. Cohen was born in Los Angeles, CA., on March 19, 1945, to Jerome and Mary Cohen. She was the last surviving, youngest of four siblings. For more than 50 years she lived on Russian Hill and worked in San Francisco.
Reneé worked as a hairstylist at the Hairport on Grant Avenue for many years. Later in 1996, she opened her own salon and boutique called Citrine on Fillmore Street, where she worked for over 25 years and became a beloved neighborhood fixture.
Through her work as a hairstylist and generous hospitality, she made a lifetime of friends that meant the world to her and became like family. Reneé possessed a wonderful sense of humor and there was always laughter in her shop. Her personalized license plate read "glitze" and declared her fabulous style to the world.
Reneé loved to entertain and enjoyed dining out around the City with her dear friends. She was an avid dog lover, especially of her sweet Lulu. Our dearest sweet Reneé was loved by all who met her. She touched our lives with her generosity and love.
On November 8, 2021, Reneé died at home after an extended illness, which she valiantly battled for over 15 years.
Reneé, you will always live on in our memory and especially in our hearts.

Renee cut and styled my hair for 25 years, encouraging me to try new things (Conservative me never went with the bright red she suggested once!). In the process we shared our lives and those of our families and friends. From Renee´s Citrine boutique my wardrobe was very nicely enhanced. Thank you for everything, Renee!

Renee was a very special person. She was a close friend of my mom Ruth. I was a child and Renee was like an Aunt. She influenced me so much in fashion, music, and laughter. She took us so many places; 60´s concerts, shopping, cut our hair, restaurants, movies, Haight St., as a child she introduced so much to this young and shy girl. I so admired and loved her. She was generous and so fun to be with. Growing older I always kept in touch with her. We shared our love of fashion and especially jewelry. Renee had the best sense of humor, always had me laughing. I miss her but have so many good memories of times with her and they pop up all the time. She has touched so many people in the best possible way. I try to treat my nieces, nephews and my son in the same loving, generous and fun way she did to me and my sisters. . You couldn´t ask for a better family friend who was more like family. She taught me so much, I was blessed to have her in my life for so long. May she Rest In Peace. Love you Renee!

Thank you so much for the kind words and pointing out the love she created for everyone. She was a wonderful aunt that took me on great journeys throughout SF that will always be treasured. She was my moms youngest sister, who was always there for my mom as well. Life needs to be embraced daily, acknowledging your blessings for those who care about you. Love to all who knew and cared for Renee over the years.

Renee & I first met at (where else?) a Weight Watcher meeting at Sears in 1980. She was one of the funniest people I´ve ever met. Her sense of fashion & style was evident in her daily wardrobe & in the clothes she sold at Citrine. When I pull a piece of jewelry from my drawer it´s nearly always one that I bought from Renee. Her love is imprinted on my heart. Until we meet again...

Renee and I flew to LA and back in the same day. Just for fun. We laughed a lot.
