Richard Aaron Blaustein

Richard (Dick) Blaustein was born and raised in San Francisco. He attended Lowell High School and graduated from San Jose State University. His family attended Congregation Beth Shalom where he had his Bar Mitzvah. Dick passed away peacefully at age 87 in Sonoma.
He was the son of the late Ruth Miller Blaustein and Joseph Blaustein and the brother of the late Milton Blaustein (Lynn Blaustein).
Dick is survived by his four children, Bruce Olsen (Dion) of Laguna Niguel, CA, Diedre Olson (Kim) of Waterloo, IA, Brent Blaustein of Petaluma,CA and Lauren Budesheim (Torsten) of Mill Valley, CA.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric Loecher (Alyssa) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kristen Loecher of Waterloo, IA, Katie Olsen (Nate) of Dana Point, CA, Olivia, Georgia, Raquel and Harper Blaustein of Petaluma, CA, and Lukas and Lily Budesheim of Mill Valley, CA. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
He will be missed by his niece, Linda Appleby and Jan Olsen and Tobi Rubin.
Dick served two years in the army in the 50's and was stationed in Tacoma, WA. He then returned to California.
Dick lived in Mill Valley, CA for many years and then 30 years in Sonoma, CA. A lover of music, Dick played the classical guitar, clarinet and saxophone, along with his brother Milt, who played the saxophone and clarinet.
His business career began in sales for both the San Francisco Progress and the San Francisco Chronicle and then for various radio stations in San Francisco. His true love was in advertising and he worked for Pacific Stereo as Director of Advertising for 100 stores. He then opened Blaustein Advertising in Mill Valley, CA, where he strategized, created and executed multi-media advertising campaigns for his many clients.
Before retiring, Dick worked for the Novato Advance for a number of years, first selling space for ads and then as Publisher. He is remembered there as a mentor to many.
A huge sports fan, in the 70's, he attended all home Raiders games with a friend on a "Raiders Bus" taking fans from Marin to Oakland, until the bus service was eliminated.
He will be missed by many and was remembered recently with family in a small Celebration of Life.
