Richard Gamble Obituary

Richard Francis Gamble Departed peacefully at his home in Stinson Beach on November 29, 2011, aged 81. Born January 1, 1930 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the second son of Howard E. and Mary Carman Gamble. Richard married Joan Rourke Gamble, in 1952, and settled in Sitka, Alaska stationed with the Coast Guard. After returning from Alaska they settled in Pasadena, CA, and in 1962 relocated to San Francisco and then finally in Stinson Beach, CA, in 1970. Richard's generosity of spirit, support, love, and kindness to family and friends was a cornerstone of his life and personality. He epitomized service to others before self. Richard's many community service activities included serving as a board member of Stinson Beach County Water District, Seadrift Association, West Marin Senior Services and Commissioner of the County Free Library of Marin. Sought for his genuine heart and advice, he was an enthusiastic participant of all life had to offer. He was a constant, active participant, and loyal friend to the Stinson Beach Community and St. Mary Magdalene Church in Bolinas. Richard will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Rourke Gamble, and is survived by his cousin Beverly Carman Gilmore and nieces Carol Gamble Sudgen, Susan Gamble Gerhard, and Cathleen Gamble Farrell and his nephew W. Bryan Gamble and their families. A memorial service will be held 10:00, January 3rd at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Bolinas. Donations can be made in Richard's memory to West Marin Senior Services in Pt. Reyes or the Stinson Beach Library Improvement Society.
