Richard Neves Obituary

Richard D. Neves
September 14, 1940 - December 8, 2022
Our beloved father and grandfather, Richard D. Neves, passed away unexpectedly at home the morning of December 8, 2022. Dad courageously lived life to it's fullest while under treatment for Multiple Myeloma since 2009.
Richard Damien Neves was born on September 14, 1940 to parents Manuel Fernandez Neves and Agnes Kainapau Kea in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dad is the fifth (5th) oldest out of 15 children and shared his life among 10 brothers and 4 sisters. In 1946, the family took the SS Lurline and called San Francisco home.
Dad attended ARHS in San Francisco and graduated from Analy High School in Sebastopol. He met our mom, Yvonne (Bunny) a native San Franciscan, on a blind date in Russian River and they settled in our family home in Mission Terrace neighborhood.
Dad had over a 30 year career with UPS working out of the San Francisco Hub. He took pride in his job with his consistent safe driving record and received many awards. Dad's second career was being a part of Simply Uniforms and many will remember him at the "heat press" machine, organizing the warehouse(s) and always assisting in every aspect as requested.
Dad enjoyed music, stage plays, and was part of a local band entertaining with his wonderful voice and stylish good looks at various venues around the Bay Area. He loved being in or around the water and for the past 2 (two) decades, he was a student at CCSF taking Water Exercise classes. In addition, Dad was an avid Keno, CA lottery, card and board game player.
Dad and Mom will rest in peace and eternal love together after celebrating 60 years of marriage earlier this year on June 2, 2022. Dad is survived by his children: Yvette, Janette and Rich (Jennifer), his grandchildren: Chris, Kaliko, Keahi, Savannah and Olivia, his brothers: Francis, Gerard, Bede, Dennis, Anthony, Louie and Paul, his sisters: Anne, Mary and Celine. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Yvonne (Bunny), parents, brothers (Manuel, Jr., Steve and William), sister (Monica). He will be fondly remembered, cherished and loved by many.
Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Thomas Martin and the entire Hemotology Team at UCSF Parnassus for the excellent care provided to our Dad for many years with kindness and compassion. Thank you for extending his quality of life so that he could enjoy what he loved to do and share time with his family.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Duggan-Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, CA and followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, CA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Multiple Myeloma Translational Initiative (MMTI) c/o Thomas G. Martin, M.D., UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center 400 Parnassus Avenue, 4th Floor, Box 0324. San Francisco, CA. 94143.
