Robert Alexander Obituary

Robert "Red" Alexander Age 90, passed away Sunday September 2, 2007. He was born in Oakland, CA, on October 16, 1916. He was a long time resident of Castro Valley for 52 years. Robert was a longtime shipbuilder for Crowley & Company for over 60 years. Also a former union shipbuilder carving models of all the ships that passed through the Oakland Estuary of San Francisco Bay. Besides working at the shipyards most of his life, he was very dedicated to shipbuilding. Robert's house was a museum of the past, present and future of ship building. Robert has been honored from many institutions, museums, and galleries throughout the Bay Area. Robert was a member of Our Lady of Grace Parish for 55+ years, helping build and volunteering his time to the parish. Robert will be dearly missed by those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, and daughter, Roberta Alexander. Robert leaves behind a daughter Grace Hobbs of Tracy and two grandchildren, Doris and Roberta Hobbs. Family and friends are invited to attend Visitation hours Wednesday, September 5th from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. with Vigil Service to begin at 7:00 p.m. held at Guerrero Mortuary, 407 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, September 6, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3433 Somerset Ave., Castro Valley, CA. Reception to follow. Graveside service will be held Thursday, September 6th at 1:30 p.m. GUERRERO MORTUARY San Leandro, CA 510-483-5300
