Robert "Bob" Ira Payne, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother-in-law, passed away unexpectedly on May 26, 2025 in Pacifica, CA. He was born on August 8, 1946, in San Francisco, to Ira and Florence Payne, grew up in Napa, and served in the U.S. Air Force. Robert devoted his career to the San Francisco Police Department from 1970-1999, and served for many years as the beat cop, "Officer Bob", in the Excelsior's Mission Street neighborhood and selected Cop of the Month for March, 1987. He was also honored by receiving two bronze Medals of Valor, a Police Commission Commendation and numerous Captain's and Chief's Commendations. Robert was a lifetime member of the South San Francisco's Elks Lodge and Historical Society of South San Francisco, Inc. He loved to fish, travel, workout, and watch westerns.
Robert leaves behind a family that will remember him always, as he was unforgettable: his loving wife Sylvia since 1975, daughter Rebecca Henry, son-in-law Alex Henry, grandson Payne Henry, sister Susan Payne, and in-laws Jackson Reed, Judith Reed, Gordon Reed (Nancy), David Reed, and preceded in death by mother-in-law Patricia Reed, and sister-in-law Eileen Des Meules. Robert is being inurned at Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Colma. A private ceremony will be held.
