Robert Tierney Obituary

TIERNEY, Robert "Bob" - Of Los Altos, at peace with his Father, March 21, 2005. Born in Kansas City, MO, October 19, 1920. Joined the 9th US Army in 1942 and transferred to the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron as a radar observer where he and his pilot, Paul Smith had 53 combat missions in a P-61 Black Widow fighter becoming one of the first night fighter aces in the European theater of operation. In 1949 he married Barbara Brauer, and in 1954 they moved to Los Altos Hills and eventually Los Altos where they have resided for 56 years. He was a manufacturers representative and served as president of the National Home Furnishing Representatives Association in 1967. In the 1980s, Bob established the Tierney Furniture Company which he ran until 2002. Besides his wife Barbara, Bob is survived by four children, Robert Tierney Jr. of Cottonwood, AZ; Tim Tierney of Folsom, CA: Nancee Rembold of Mesa, AZ; and Terrence Tierney of Laguna Niguel, CA. He was pre-deceased by his son William Daniel Tierney. Also surviving is his sister Betty O'Hearn of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Tara Walcott, Jennifer, William, Patrick, Sean-Paul and Sigrid Tierney. His wit and Irish humor endeared him to his loving family and many friends. He was always there to give advice or help the underdog. He had a happy, long life. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Monday, March 28, 2005 at 10:00 AM at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 473 Lincoln Ave, Los Altos. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos. Arrangements under the direction of the Los Altos Chapel of Spangler Mortuaries. Donations to the American Cancer Society, Silicon Valley Central Coast Region, 1715 S. Bascom Ave., Campbell, CA 95008 or the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, preferred.
