Robert John Walker, 92, died on Tuesday September 16 at his residence at Aegis Living in Corte Madera, California. He was diagnosed with dementia several years prior and passed peacefully after a short illness following a fall.
Bob was born in Portland, Oregon. He served in Korea with the United States Marine Corps and later attended University of Oregon and the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. After Thunderbird, he explored Central and South America via hitchhiking and bus.
Bob's early work in the financial sector took him to international posts in London, Bahrain, and Monte Carlo. In the Bay Area, he enjoyed a long career in commercial real estate in San Francisco, notably with Colton Commercial & Partners.
Bob married Joanne (Curtin) Walker in Cyprus in 1971. They welcomed two sons, Michael and Paul. Bob and his family resided in Marin County, California. They spent leisure time at their cabin at Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe. Bob and Joanne traveled widely, with notable trips to Russia, Botswana, Tanzania, South Africa, the upper banks of the Amazon, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, and the Marquesas.
Bob will be remembered for his inimitable blend of courtesy, kindness, irreverence, joviality, experience, adventure, industriousness, and warmth.
Bob is survived by his brother Douglas, of Milwaukie, Oregon; his son Michael, of Riverside, Connecticut; his son Paul, of Ross, California; and his four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne.
On Friday, October 3 the 8:30am Mass at St. Anselm Catholic Church will be offered in Bob's memory. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 3 from 2pm-5pm at American Legion Hall 313 at 500 Magnolia Avenue in Larkspur, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marines' Memorial Foundation.
