Roger David Erickson

Roger David Erickson passed away at the age of 89 on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy, his sons William (Natalia), Andrew (Sharon), Kevin (Kristin), and grandchildren, Catherine, Matt, Tanner, Emily, and Henry.

Roger was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Leandro, California. As a boy, he spent summers at his grandparent's prune ranch in Cambell, California, and was proud of his Swedish heritage. His grandfather, Nels Hultberg, a native of Sweden, discovered gold in Nome, Alaska and later immigrated to the United States, establishing a Swedish colony in Hilmar, California and was instrumental in the incorporation of Turlock, California.

At 18, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Korean War. He served on the USS Salisbury Sound which was a support ship for anti-warfare submarines and fighter plane squadrons. Trained in electronics, Roger was based in Okinawa, but he toured Japan, Korea, Formosa, and the Philippines.

In 1964 he married Dorothy Stanley and they moved to Corte Madera where he began his career as a safety compliance specialist. They lived there for 46 years raising their three sons and later moved to San Rafael in 2011. Roger played golf, was an avid reader and especially loved going to their family cabin at Pinecrest.

No service is planned. Family will celebrate Roger's life later this summer in Pinecrest. Donations in his honor may be made to your local hospice provider or the charity of your choice.
