Roger Saunders Obituary

Roger Alan "Rog" Saunders Born on June 4, 1948, to the late Frances Lucille Scott and the late Casper Leon Saunders, passed away unexpectedly in his home on December 21, 2006, at the young age of 58. Roger loved life; he lived in the present, embracing every day with passion and excitement. He was a beautiful soul, compassionate, respectful, patient and forgiving. Although Roger did not have biological children of his own, he raised Christopher as his own son, and had spiritually adopted both Pasquale and Marcais, acting as a father figure and role model to these three young men. Roger was a genuine person with tremendous thoughtfulness and integrity toward family, friends and in his business dealings. He was non-judgmental, a trusted friend and confidant. Roger was particularly protective of his family and friends, cherishing the relationships and friendships he made throughout his life. Roger was incredibly charismatic with a very distinctive voice and laugh, quickly putting people at ease with his gentle nature and ability to find humor in just about everything. Very conscientious about his well being, he was a fantastic cook and worked hard to keep himself healthy and strong. Roger loved all things in motion; especially trains, cars and airplanes - he was a licensed pilot. As an avid history buff, he watched endless hours of documentaries and movies especially those relating to WW II. Hoping to expand his vernacular, he recently started studying Mandarin and Cantonese, as well as, refining his Spanish, as he planned on doing more traveling where he could use his new language skills. Extremely intelligent and always the consummate student, Roger continuously sought out new life experiences and knowledge. Roger especially loved to play the guitar, a past time that brought him immense joy and contentment. He was a professional musician for 40 years. His main instrument was the guitar, but he also sang, played the drums, bass, and keyboards. He played rock, blues, and jazz and also composed, arranged, and produced music. He was a founding member of the San Francisco bands "Allmen Joy" and "Black Magic." Based on his experiences and understanding of the plight of a struggling artist, Roger founded NetStarMaker.com (NSM), where he was President and C.E.O. NSM's main goal is to give artists exposure to high-level decision makers in the music and film business, thereby providing them a platform and opportunity to establish a worldwide fan base. During the past 25 years, Roger played out his adventurer and explorer fantasies mostly through his gift as a compelling storyteller and writer. Through his love of movies and filmmaking, Roger founded and was President and C.E.O. of RJC Productions. He embraced technology, loved science fiction, and humor, all being prevalent themes in most of his works. As an extremely creative screenwriter, director and producer, he wrote many screenplays and teleplays including "HellaVator," "D. Walker," "Killer Roaches From The Hood," and "Lacey's." Roger had a strong sense of community and dreamed of becoming a police officer. He attended the Peace Officer Certification Program through the San Francisco Police Academy, as well as, completed the Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification Program (Reserve Officer Academy) through the College of San Mateo. Roger was born in San Francisco, CA, spent his youth growing up in Bozeman, Montana and Washington, D.C., and returned as a teenager to San Francisco where he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1965. In college, he majored in broadcast communications. We are so blessed and grateful for the time we had with Roger - his unexpected and sudden passing is a heartbreaking and devastating loss to his family, friends, and associates. Roger was profoundly loved by the many lives he touched and he will be genuinely missed. Full of life, full of love, full of wisdom, full of imagination, and full of song, he was, and will remain, an inspiration to many. Roger is survived by his dearly loved companion and partner of 22 years, Joanne Bersamin; her son, Christopher de los Reyes; his sister, Johanna Shreve; his nephew, nieces and many other family members and friends. In loving memory of our beloved Roger, a celebration of his life will be held at Driscoll's Mortuary, located at 1465 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 1:30p.m. All family and friends are welcome. I am shocked to hear about Roger. His sister Clarice and I used to go to Pasands to hear Roger play way back in the day. I was even fortunate enough to go up flying with him and his instructor. I guess he was a good pilot, we landed! I haven't spoken to him in a while, but his memory will be with us all forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you Joanne.

I knew Roger on/off for 30 years. I first met him in SF around 1976 - we played some gigs and wrote some songs during that time. I met him via David Sandoz when they lived on the hill. Roger was an amazing, creative, inspiring, and genuine person - one of the few people I ever met who said what he meant and meant what he said. He will be missed but his memory will live on...

"Rog" was great friend of mine and from the moment we met and starting working on the "Vampire X" project I knew he was CRAZY...lol. I also knew this guy would be a part of my life for a very long time. Little did I know it would only be a little over 3 years or so, but the memories will last forever. He actually emailed me the day before he left us...so, I feel blessed to be able to say that I'm one of the last people he communicated with before he went home.
Be Blessed Joanne and Family and my love will continue to be with you through this tough time and beyond,

cj.

I remember Roger, Keeno and David, laughing, joking and planning for their futures. I am an oldie but goodie meeting Roger in the early '70's. Roger continued with his contagious smile and I will miss him!

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Roger's passing. I met Roger through my late husband, Nathaniel Justice, about 11 or so years ago. At that time, they were in a jazz band named J4 along with Marvin Boxley. They used to rehearse in my homes in Daly City and Hayward, CA.

I remember Roger as being cheerful and full of life. Yes, he did have a very distinctive laugh which will be greatly missed. I know Roger's loss is difficult to bear. Please know that I share your grief and we are here for you.

Love and Peace,
Darlene & Nicole Justice
