Ross Cadenasso Obituary

Ross J. Cadenasso

May 13, 1925 – February 1, 2018

Oakland, California

Ross Julius Cadenasso, 92, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018. He was born in San Francisco on May 13, 1925, but was a lifelong resident of Oakland, California. He was preceded in death by his parents Julia and Mario and his brother Eugene. Ross graduated from U.C. Berkeley and earned a MBA from U.C. Berkeley School of Business in 1952. He was an accountant at the Oakland firm of Thompson, Dechow, Garcia & Reich where he met his beloved wife, Lillian. Ross and Lillian were married in September 1955 in Oakland's Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales. In 1956 he joined Blyth and Company in San Francisco leaving in 1972 to launch an independent financial consultancy specializing in the timber and wine industries.

Throughout his life Ross was committed to Catholic education and was active at Corpus Christi School, Bishop O'Dowd High School and St. Elizabeth High School and an avid supporter of Family Aid – Catholic Education. He was a dedicated member of the Corpus Christi Parish, was a Knight of Malta, served on the fundraising committee for the Cathedral of Christ the Light, and volunteered with The St. Vincent de Paul Society. Curiosity fueled his love of traveling. Ross was deeply dedicated to his family, spending time at the family's home at Lake Tahoe swimming, hiking, cross country skiing, and fly fishing with his children. Ross is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Lillian, and their children Peter (Mary), Scott (Erika Wanenmacher), Richard (Marian), Anne, Carl (Lisa), Mary (James Maness), Joseph (Deborah) and Gina, and his 14 grandchildren.

A Vigil Service will be held on Friday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held to celebrate Ross' life on Saturday, February 10 at 10:30 a.m. All services will be held at Corpus Christi Church: 322 St. James Dr. Piedmont. Parking is available in the adjacent Corpus Christi School lot at 1 Estates Dr. Piedmont. Gifts can be made in Ross' memory to Corpus Christi School, 1 Estates Dr., Piedmont, CA 94611 or The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Alameda County, 2272 San Pablo Ave., Oakland, CA 94612.

Anne, So sorry to hear of your dad's passing. My pop passed in 2008 and my mom in 2007. I haven't kept in touch with my old Corpus Christi school mates and just stubbled across this accidentally today, 11/9/2019. My thoughts are with you; I know how hard it can be to lose your mom or pop. Love, Claire

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to family and friends of Ross. It's times like these when the loving promises of our Heavenly Father such as knowing that we can see our loved ones again can bring us comfort and soften some of the pain we feel in our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13,14

It was a blessing to serve with Ross on the SVdP Board of Trustees from 2000-2009. His insights, especially financial, were beneficial to the organization. Lillian and Ross were generous with monetary donations enabling SVdP to assist the poor effectively. Finally, what impressed me most about Ross was how he epitomized what it means to be a Gentle-Man!
