Russell Kamiyama Obituary

Russell Kamiyama
November 17, 1950 - July 15, 2023
Russ passed away peacefully at home on July 15, with his loving wife of 21 years, Shelley, at his side. He was surrounded by family before his passing. Russ is preceded in death by his parents Willie & Alice Chang and son, Paul.
He is survived by his children, Troy, Aisha (Jake), Shaun (Kelsey),Amanda and eight grandchildren. Kalani, Jade, Romeo, Lana, Nana, Jaz, Jax & Calvin and his family in Hawaii.
Russ worked for PG&E for 26 years, working his way up from Groundsman, Apprentice Lineman, Lineman, Troubleman, Crew Foreman to Overhead Supervisor, before he left in 2000 to work for the City of Palo Alto as Electric Operations Manager, where he retired from in 2016.
Russ enjoyed watching his Bay Area teams, 49ers, Giants and Warriors. He and Shelley enjoyed taking trips to Reno & Hawaii. They enjoyed little trips to Napa where they would go find new places to eat. Most of all Russ just enjoyed spending time with his family and especially Shelley. He loved to sit in his backyard in his chair and watch the high school sports teams play on the field behind his house.
Russ will be missed by many.
Celebration of life to be held at a later date.

My deep condolences to the family.

My memories of Russ will always be:
A ready smile.
A deep laugh.
A dagger-sharp wit.
A search for fairness and integrity in the world.

I am honored to have known him.

Russ and I met in San Francisco when i was put on his crew when I was still
apprentice lineman. (Treat St) I liked Russ immediately because he had lots of patience and a sarcastic sense of humor.. I needed the patience and had the same sense of humor. those two things made it easy and fun to work with him. We became friends and he will be missed.

Russ's passing hit me very hard. He was a truly terrific person. He handled everything with reason, calm, and caring and I was very lucky to work with him at the City of Palo Alto.
