Ruth Plainfield Obituary

Ruth Opper Plainfield Ruth Plainfield passed away peacefully at her home in Berkeley, CA on Sunday, March 8th. Ruth was born on January 27, 1925 in Gau Bickelheim, Germany and fled Nazi Germany to the United States in 1938. She married the love of her life, Sanford, in 1946. They settled in Berkeley where their two sons, Mark and Kim, were born and raised. She worked as a psychiatric social worker in Napa and Sonoma counties and as a therapist at Cowell Hospital at U.C. Berkeley. She also devoted herself as a volunteer to numerous causes serving the homeless, battered women, refugees and victims of the holocaust. She valiantly battled much illness in her life. Up until her passing she strived for what was right for all around her. She is survived by her husband Sanford, her children, Mark, Kim and Maureen; her grandchildren, Fernando, Samuel, Julian, their mother Vicky, and Joel and Sebastian, and by her in-laws, Bob and Virginia Plainfield, Craig and Richie and their families. The family gratefully acknowledges Doris, Darlene, Keisha, Sandra, Toni and Theresa for lovingly caring for both Ruth and Sanford. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at noon at Sunset View Cemeteries, 101 Colusa Ave., El Cerrito, followed by a reception at the family home in Berkeley. Call 1-866-962-6335 or www.mandelfuneralservices.com for more information or to send a message to the family.
