Ruth Diane "Dee" Stewart
09/14/1944 - 11/19/2024
Ruth Diane "Dee" Stewart (née Santos) passed away in the comfort of her home in Port Costa, CA on November 19th, 2024 after battling cancer for several years. She was surrounded by the love of her friends and family in passing, just as she was in life.
Dee was born in Sacramento, CA on September 14th, 1944. She was the oldest of two children born to Ruth Smith and Tom Santos. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband Lewis Stewart; and her stepdaughter Gretchen Jacobson. She is survived by her brother Michael, as well as many close members of her extended family.
Dee leaves behind a legacy of charitable contributions and dedication to her community, an appreciation of the arts, and a life lived freely and passionately. She will be dearly missed by many family members, friends, and loved ones.
A memorial service for Dee will be held at the Port Costa School on July 19th, 2025 at 11:00 am. Donations may be made to the Port Costa Conservation Society in lieu of flowers.

My mother, Peggy, far left, arrived in Port Costa with my dad, Hank, in 1963. My mother danced every year with Dee, who eventually became a Prospect Hill neighbor along with Louie. The tap dancers who appeared with Dee were always hilarious and well-choreographed.

I first met Dee when she and Louie lived in the Warehouse. I have many memories of Dee. I remember the party when she and louie moved into the top floor of the Bait Shop and they had a move in party. She and George King (the two people I have know the longest out of all my friends) dressed as roller derby skaters and skated around the top floor. I look back on MANY talent shows beginning in the park across from the bait shop, the Mickey and Minnie routine, and the memorable "I'll Be Calling You" that she and louie did sitting in a "boat" on the stage at the school.
I spoke to Dee every day the last few months of her life. I will miss her dearly!
I am so sorry that I will not be there to say good-bye!
