Sally Krakow Obituary

Sally Krakow
August 7, 1930 - November 14, 2023
Sally Krakow was a true original: witty, bold, and full of energy. She loved her life and lived it to the fullest. The only child of Alice and Floyd Sullivan, Sally was born in 1930 in Beverly Hills, California. In 1951 she met Roger Waller Krakow, of Davenport, Iowa and they were married 3 months later after he accepted her proposal. Initially living in San Francisco, they soon moved to San Mateo where she quickly became an active member of the community.
Sally was a devoted mother who shepherded all four of her sons to the rank of Eagle Scout. She was a life-long learner and always interested in fine arts, the written word and sharing her dining room table with friends and family. During her varied career she worked as a teacher's aide at Burlingame High School's English Department, chairperson of Decorator's Show House parties for the Coyote Point Auxiliary, President of the San Mateo Park Homeowner's Assoc., taught needle work and quilting at the San Mateo Adult Education and Recreation Dept., and was the spokesperson for the Golden Gate Geographic Travel Society for ten years. Sally was probably best known for her weekly byline "Your Wedding Consultant" which ran in The San Mateo Times for twelve years accompanying her career as a wedding planner. She loved working with brides and creating one-of-a-kind weddings.
Camping out on the Moroccan Sahara, sleeping in a rice barge on the River Kwai, hiking through Bhutan -- she was a passionate world-traveler along with her cherished husband, Roger. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary boating on the Amazon and hiking to the top of Machu Picchu. For the past decade Sally & Roger devoted themselves to the Burlingame Library Foundation.
Sally passed away peacefully on November 14, in the San Mateo Park home that she loved so much. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Roger Sr., son Roger Jr., his wife Elizabeth, their children Roger III and Lucy; son Bradford, his wife Monica, their family Trevor, her husband Jacob Harrington and their daughter Thea, and Alexandra, her husband Mitchell Bush; son Peter, his wife Kari, their daughters, Hattie and Willa; son Charles, his wife Sheila and their daughter Amelia.
Mrs. Krakow belonged to The Episcopal Church of St. Matthew in San Mateo for 66 years where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Garden Guild. Services will be held there on December 9 at 11am. For those wishing to honor Sally's memory, please consider: The Episcopal Church of Saint Matthew, Peninsula Open Space Trust, or The Burlingame Library Foundation.

Sally meant so much to me. She was a creative genius, among so many other things. I have saved all of the notes she wrote me. I use them as inspiration in her calligraphy which I have begun to do. She lives on in my heart and mind always!

I remember when I was pregnant with my first, Sally put her arm around my waist and told me I was having a girl! She was right!!!!!

I was visiting with Donna Rico, my mother two days ago, and her countenance changed, as she confided that she had just learned the her close friend Sally, had passed. Sally and Mom share the same birth year, and Roger n Sally, Ronald and Donna, shared many wonderful times related to their San Francisco and San Mateo days!
Mom told me she is devastated... she will miss Sally. The last time the families were together was for a warm Carmel Valley patio lunch. Sally did not disappoint as I loved to sit and be mesmerized as she spun the most interesting stories about people n life! Roger looking on with his most pleasant smile n twinkle in his eye, sitting by her side. She will be missed by so many. The Rico family will miss her.

We visited them in San Mateo when I was about 11. Roger and my father were friends. Sally planned a beachside gathering for all of us. It was freezing and dark and we built a fire on the beach. It felt like the most outrageous thing I had ever done and Sally was on her game that night. We stayed in Roger´s hotel on our honeymoon and lso had dinner with them one night in San Francisco with Erling and Mary Larson.
She was one of a kind.

I clearly remember Sally and Roger from visits they made back to Roger´s hometown,Davenport, Iowa over the years. And then when I moved to San Francisco to complete my 5 years of post graduate medical training Sally and Roger were there for me like a second set of parents. Sally and Roger made a big impact on my life and I will always cherish my memories of them.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family.
