Mrs. Sarah Nazarethian passed away peacefully during the night on April 17, 2024 at 94 years old in Daly City, CA.
Sarah was born on May 20, 1929 in Beirut, Lebanon, to Yeghia and Zartig Der Manuelian. 3 years later, her brother and her best friend, Christopher Der Manuelian was born.
Sarah immigrated to the United States in 1965 with her young daughter, Ashkhen, with only two suitcases in hand and no money to spare. She married Hagop Nazarethian a few years later, in 1967. Shortly after, Sarah gave birth to their son, Setrag. Sarah and Hagop opened Harborview Deli on Union Street in San Francisco, which was highly well-known and successful, in particular for Sarah's Armenian sandwiches. They eventually purchased the entire building, which they kept even after they closed Harborview in the 1990s. They were able to purchase their dream home in the Sunset District of San Francisco, where numerous large family gatherings were hosted. Sarah was highly involved in the Armenian community and at her church, Calvary Armenian Congregational Church. Sarah was known for her constant generosity, her unbelievable cooking skills, and for her love for her culture, her family, and Jesus.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Ashkhen, her son Setrag, and his wife, Joyce; her grandchildren, Berj, Raffi, Sarah, Christina, Hagop, and Christian; and her great grandchildren, Danella, Seth, Alexandra, Selah, Vahe, Raffi, Sophie, Elijah, and Aria.
Sarah is predeceased by her husband Hagop, and her brother Christopher.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024 at 11:00am at Calvary Armenian Congregational Church, 725 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco, CA 94132.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to KZV Armenian School in Sarah's name. Donations may be sent to KZV Armenian School, 825 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco, CA 94132.
