Sarsfield Kelly Obituary

Sarsfield "Mic" Kelly
April 17, 1935 - February 13, 2023

Sarsfield "Mic" Andrew Kelly also known as "Coach Kelly", passed away peacefully on February 13, 2023, with his family by his side.
Born on April 17, 1935, as a second-generation San Franciscan. Mic was raised in the Marina District in San Francisco by his parents Marjorie Mary Dunne (Marge) and Sarsfield (Sarge) Kelly. He attended Ecole Notre Dame des Victories grammar school, St. Ignatius High School (Class of 1952) and Santa Clara University (Class of 1956). During high school he was All-City 20's & 30's, was the captain of the Championship 20's, and a varsity basketball player at SI. He then went on to compete at the collegiate level in basketball at Santa Clara University. During college, Mic met the love of his life, LaVerne (LV) Moresco (even though they had only lived 1 ½ blocks from each other while growing up in SF for 17 years). After college, Mic married LV on May 4th, 1957, at St. Vincent de Paul in San Francisco.
He then served two years as an officer in the United States Navy. As newlyweds they both lived on Coronado Island where Mic was stationed. In 1959, they came back to the bay area and bought their first home in Daly City to start their family. Mic's 32 years in education and coaching started with his first job as an English teacher & basketball coach at Serra High School in San Mateo in 1960. He then went on to teach and coach at Jefferson High School. This is where Mic really found his calling in teaching, coaching, and mentoring many fine students and athletes. He was responsible for winning 11 league championships in the NPL (North Peninsula League). After retiring Mic was inducted into the Daly City Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 for his contributions in coaching basketball and mentoring young athletes. Mic was also a travel agent with Burlingame Travel Bureau for many years, facilitating many families and friends' trips all over the world. Travel was his passion, and with LV, they traveled & cruised to every continent in the world, except Antarctica. He stopped counting his cruises after 80 cruises. He was proud of the fact that his four children got to travel and see the world with him and his wife LV.
Mic is survived by his beloved wife, LV Kelly, 65 years married. He is also survived by his three children, Karyn (Steve) Giannini, Daniel Kelly, Kathleen (Roberto) Morello, and grandchildren Jason (Jessica), Kristine, Douglas (Sanonda), Brent, Cassy, Dominic, Gianna, and great-grandchildren Maddy, Lexy, Keegan, Rory. He will be missed greatly by his family and by the many people whose lives he touched.
A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on April 15th, 2023, at 11:00 am St. Dunstan Church, 1133 Broadway, Millbrae. Reception immediately following at St. Dunstan Church Cafeteria, (Just walk across the parking lot)
