Scott Ricker Obituary

Scott Ricker
March 18, 1952 - August 1, 2023
Scott Ricker was born on March 18, 1952, to Dr. Walter and Ruth Nilsestuen Ricker. From the beginning he was an affectionate, fun-loving guy who cherished sports, music and being with family and friends.
Walt and Ruth divorced in 1960 but both happily remarried--Walt to Wanda Pratt and Ruth to Bill McMahon. So, in addition to sisters Anne and Judy, Scott gained four brothers (Bill, Brian, Pat and Tim) and sister Mary McMahon, then younger sister Tracy and brother Walt. When Walt senior died Wanda married Bill Lynch and Scott gained siblings Sandy, Bob and Susan Lynch.
Scott graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Political Science, and he devoured history books and always had specific, well-considered political convictions But he loved skiing, running and sports more. Scott grew up on the slopes of Stevens Pass and purchased his home in Truckee near Tahoe and skiing. He also traveled the world to experience ancient cultures, politics and architecture. Scott lived in music and played guitar, with a band as well.
His other avocation was running "the Hash" (Hash House Harriers), an international association of running devotees and beer drinkers. Hashing took Scott to such faraway places as Kuala Lumpur and Trinidad in addition to the hundreds of US runs.
Scott was an accomplished and revered commercial property appraiser in the Bay Area for 25+ years. His clients begged him not to retire, but Scott wanted the quiet beauty of his mountain home.
He never found the right woman to marry but maintained deep and enduring friendships from school, the Hash and his Seattle posse. He is survived by all his siblings except Brian. Everyone who knew him can hear his joyful laughter and love of a good time. Scott was no egotist and had no idea how important he was to all of us. "He was a great man, he just didn't know it," said brother Pat.
