Scott Schlesinger Obituary
March 26, 1957 - March 16, 2023
On Thursday, March 16, lifelong Bay Area resident Scott Schlesinger, 65, passed away with loved ones by his side. Scott was passionate about baking for family, friends, and his community. His delicious cookies were exceptionally beloved, winning first place at the San Mateo County Fair. He was a diehard Bay Area sports fan, held Warriors season tickets, and begun each day studying the sports section. Scott loved music and attending concerts with his wife Irene, especially the Grateful Dead and Ratdog. He traveled with his friends, played poker, tended to his vegetable garden, and pitched for his softball team. He worked at San Francisco's Mission Jewelry and Loan for over 30 years. Always fun to talk to and hang out with, to know Scott was to adore him. He is survived by a loving wife, daughter, two sons, two sisters, and a large extended family. Per Scott's wishes, no funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be sent to the B'nai Brith Youth Organization, a local animal shelter, or food shelter. May his memory be a blessing.

Scott was a dear friend in High School. We had fun at the ten year reunion. Scott was an exceptional man. I am saddened by his passing.

I met Scott at SF State in 1976. We were on the same floor at Verducci Hall Dormitory. We fast became friends. As kids we of course did College fun stuff. He loved the band Supertramp. He loved imported beers. We eventually were roommates out on La Playa in SF.

Scott - I will simply never forget you. People with your magnitude of kindness and joie de vivre are few and very far between; the next nearest is your beloved Irenie. We will keep her close in our hearts and look after her. Rest easy my friend.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Scott Schlesinger. I met Scott at Mission Jewelery and Loan around 1992.. Musicians borrow money against their equipment to make ends meet often, so I quickly developed a relationship with M J & L. A core of people helped me turn my life around. Darryl Kaplan and staff are part of that core. How can you ever adequately thank someone for helping you save your life? You can't but you keep trying for the rest of your days. It's not the kind of thing you ever forget.
Favourite memory...Darryl the boss was on vacation in Mexico, and left the keys in Scott's hands. I came in and commented on a Beautiful green Gibson Flying V that was for sale. Scott said.."Wanna play it?" Set me up with a small amp and the store had background Rock Music for about the next 2 1/2 hours. Whoever bought that Guitar thinks it's just a Guitar but it's not. It was an instrument of kindness used by one friend to another friend to make the latter happy for awhile. This came at a time that I mostly REALLY needed something to smile about. This was Scott Schlesinger. I'll never forget Scott Schlesinger. I'm not meant to. You guys helped me save my life. I had HELP. You guys were a very big part of the formula. I consider myself SO lucky to have known Scott, and the staff at Mission Loan in this life. I'll miss you greatly, as I have ever since the store closed, but we'll all see you again soon enough. Thank you for being my friend in this life Scott. I love you for being my friend here.
