Sidney Gutterman Obituary

Sidney Gutterman Resident of Palo Alto Sidney was born in San Francisco on October 15, 1917. He died peacefully, in his sleep, on February 26th, 2011 at age 93. Sidney graduated from Sequoia High School and attended San Jose State University. He received his Bachelor's and Master's in Business Administration from Stanford University. Sidney took great pleasure in attending his high school and college reunions over the years. Sidney was the owner of Sydney's Interiors at the Stanford Shopping Center. Sidney's parents, Sam and Mollie, were among the founders of Congregation Beth Jacob in Redwood City and Sidney was the longest surviving member of the congregation. He served the temple in many capacities, including President. In addition, Sidney served on the San Mateo County Grand Jury and the Juvenile Justice Commission. Sidney married Devera Brenner in 1941. She died in 1974. He married Anne Feinstein in 1979. Sidney is survived by his wife, Anne, his three children, Clifford Gutterman (Susan), Ann Mitchell (Gary), and Mimi Gutterman. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Feinstein (Jeffrey), Scott Gutterman (Cristina) and David Gutterman and his great-grandchildren Matthew and Sydney Feinstein, and Cameron and Sterling Gutterman. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lottie Gutterman, and numerous nieces and his nephew. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Willie and Morris. Most important to Sidney were his love for his family and his devotion to his temple. Sidney played tennis until he was 85 years old and enjoyed playing poker with his closest friends until the last week of his life. Sidney's sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him and he was often called upon to be the master of ceremonies at special events. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation Beth Jacob, 1550 Alameda de las Pulgas, Redwood City, 94061. Burial to follow at Hills of Eternity, Colma. Shiva Minyan Wednesday and Thursday, March 2nd and 3rd at 7:30, p.m. Oak Creek Apartments, 1704 Oak Creek Drive, Apartment 305, Palo Alto 94304. In lieu of flowers, donations to Congregation Beth Jacob are preferred.
