Simon Chemavonian Obituary

Simon Elias Chemavonian Born on September 15, 1925, died on June 20, 2008 at his home in Placerville, CA. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Simon was the only son of Freida and Elias Chemavonian. Simon migrated to New York at the age of 28. He applied and received a scholarship to Purdue University, earning a B.S. in chemical engineering and an M.B.A. At Purdue he married Charlotte Bell and they started their family. In 1966 they moved to San Francisco, CA, where Simon began a career as a stockbroker. Simon was active in various organizations, including the Knights of Vartan, the Lyons Club and Young Men's Institute through the Catholic Church. He was also a parishioner at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Belmont, CA. Simon's last job was through the Family Service Agency in San Mateo, where he helped place and supervise fellow senior citizens looking for employment. Due to health issues Simon moved to Placerville in 2006 to be with his daughter and son-in-law. Up until the last month of his life, Simon enjoyed staying active at the El Dorado Senior Day Center in Placerville. Survived by three daughters: Catherine, Linda and Anna; and four sisters: Veronica, Arminée, Lucie and Nelly. Simon's presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Although I never met Simon, his daughter Linda shared rich stories of his life as a young man and also as a participant at the El Dorado Senior Day Center.

My condolences to Linda, Wade and all of Simon's family.

Though I only saw uncle Sim twice in my life,
I had a lot of affection for my “Uncle from America”
All my sympathy to my cousins Catherine, Linda and Anna,
To his family and closest friends
May he rest in peace, and your sorrow eased

Simon was a great friend to many at the Senior Day Center. He was our special "garden tender" and we all miss his smile and tender ways. Deepest sympathy to his family as they go through this difficult time.
