Stephen Britschgi Obituary

Stephen Carl Britschgi
06/07/1959 - 07/25/2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Carl Britschgi, 66, who peacefully passed away on July 25, 2025, in Homewood, CA, after a courageous 2 1/2-year battle with cancer. Steve faced his illness with the same determination and strength that characterized his entire life.
Born and raised in Redwood City to Brenton and Barbara Britschgi, Steve attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and graduated from Sequoia High School in 1977 and Chico State University in 1981 where he developed his lifelong love for rugby. He built lasting friendships with his college teammates, and continued to play for several clubs through his mid-20s.
Steve built a distinguished career in business and finance, serving as VP of Traveler's Financial Services and CentreCorp Financial. In 1988, he created Sportwest Management, operating the Foster City Athletic Club and The Club of Mountain View for over 25 years. His entrepreneurial spirit flourished when he began Advocates For Athletes in 2010, placing over 750 student-athletes at colleges nationwide.
Steve had a deep sense of community. He created the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Men's Club, served on OLMC's Parish Council, the Foster City Chamber of Commerce, the Boards of the Redwood Chapter of National Junior Basketball as well as St. Francis Youth Center.
In 1988, Steve married Kathleen Kerwin Britschgi, the love of his life. Together, they raised their two sons, Spencer and Jake Britschgi, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and to always put family first. At the center of his world were Kathleen and their boys, and together they built a full life filled with family trips to Hawaii, La Quinta, and Lake Tahoe.
Raised in the Catholic faith, he maintained a strong spiritual foundation throughout his life. He loved coaching and watching his sons compete, hiking and going on walks, golf, rugby, boating, and had a passion for Lake Tahoe.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Kathleen Kerwin Britschgi; his sons Spencer and Jake Britschgi; his parents, Brenton and Barbara Britschgi; his siblings Susan Casey and Mark Britschgi (Liz); and 8 nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Steve. He was predeceased by one beloved nephew.
Steve will always be remembered for his mischievous sense of humor, unwavering love for his family, and incredible passion for life. He had the rare ability to light up any room he entered. Beneath his strong outer shell was a gentle and kind heart. A true leader, devoted family man, and someone who made a lasting impact on everyone around him, he will be loved and missed forever. The family is deeply grateful to all who have stood by their side over the past 2 1/2 years.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Donations can be made in Steve's name to the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center in Truckee, CA or City of Hope in Duarte, CA.
