Stephen Semans Obituary

Stephen Jeffrey Semans June 27, 1948 - September 18, 2008 Stephen Jeffrey Semans, beloved husband of Kay Lynn Semans for 35 years, greatly adored father of Kyle and Shelley (Tom), unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack, on September 18, 2008. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Frances. Steve was loved and respected by his four brothers: Greg (Bonnie), Mark (Liza), Geoff and Brett. Steve will also be greatly missed by his uncle Bob (Sue); his brother-in-law Steve (Chris); many nephews, nieces, friends, and colleagues. Steve was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, and moved to Lafayette in 1974 where he started his family. Steve lived in the first house he bought with his wife on Betty Lane until just two years ago when he moved to Reno, NV, for a business opportunity. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965-1968. Steve was greatly admired as a leader and pioneer in the telecommunications industry. He valued hard work, honesty, integrity and loyalty and he worked diligently to instill those values in his children. Steve's greatest passions in life were his family and his profession; he also enjoyed travel, his home renovation projects, diet coke and salad. Steve will be dearly missed by all those he touched. Services will be held at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette on Friday September 26, 2008 at 10:30am. A Celebration of Life will follow at Shelley and Tom's. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.

The Everlasting Light
Those we love must someday pass
beyond our present sight...
must leave us
and the world we know
without their
radiant light.

But we know
that like a candle
their lovely light
will shine
to brighten up
another place
more perfect...more divine.

And in the realm of Heaven
where they shine
so warm and bright,
our loved ones live forevermore
in God's eternal light.

I cant believe it has been 7 months since you left. I hope wherever you are it is wonderful!! Can you beleive that in exactly one month I will have been married for a year. We are going to Puerta Vallerta, I know you loved it there so I am going to take some of your ashes. I am so glad you were able to walk me down the isle at my wedding. I miss you terribly. Uncle Greg says he dreamt that you were on a beautiful beach with a big smile on your face. I have a picture of a beautiful beach that I look at everyday while i am at work and hope that you are enjoying the warm sun, and sound of the waves crashing on the shore. I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve-
Kyle told me that he was sure you were in heaven pulling cable. I know it must be true as you always wanted a perfect crew. Now you have a million angels helping you and there are no slackers in heaven.

We were shocked to hear of Steve's passing, he always worked hard to stay fit. We will miss one of his favorite expressions "In my former life" that he used often. We send our thoughts and prayers to everyone in the family.

A few years ago, Steve was visiting his daughter Shelley who lives next door to us. I was very impressed with the way he came to my aid after Bob explained to him that one of my office phone lines wasn't working and the installer was out of commission for a few weeks with a medical issue. Even though he didn't know me well, without hesitation he said he would check it out!

It only took him about 15 minutes to resolve the problem and most of that time was spent showing him several "birds nests of wires" in the phone room. Quickly and easily he said "this will likely do it"...and...that was it...we could hear a nice dial tone!!

I really appreciated his good nature and the ease with which he worked.

Our sincere condolences to Shelley, Kay, and family.

We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have re-connected with Steve & Kay just before their move to Reno. The time we spent together was precious. Steve was a true gentleman & his whit & generosity were unsurpassed. Steve will be greatly missed; however, his spirit remains with all he touched.

Steve, you came to mind this past week. The last time we spoke was just before you moved to Reno. I hadn't talked to you in at least ten years but we caught up quickly. You ALWAYS had the ability to make me laugh even when that wasn't your intent! I'll never forget your humor, your 6-pack of Coke, your laugh and love for life. One of the last things you told me when we worked together at VOICEPRO was, 'I want to have fun in my profession'. You made it fun Steve.

Thank you Steve for believing and trusting me with all of the job sites I ran for you. I would be on job sites out of town for months to a year (in one instance) and you trusted me enough to never check on me or worry about the sites. I thank you for the oppurtunities. You were always there if I needed help or advise, like a father would be for a son. Kyle is one of my few best friends and I will never forget AP Tech.

What can I say here? Your are missed terribly! You always made me laugh, taught me about hard work and took time to just ask me how my day was going. We both shared a love for the Sunset District. Thank you for sharing your memoires of the way it used to be. Thank you for your concern about Bob and the girls. You touched so many deeply and we won't ever forget you Steve. C.I.S. is a brighter place because you passed through the doors.
