Steve Israel 74, passed away November 19th, 2015 after a long battle with cancer and heart disease. Born in San Francisco, Steve was an Eagle Scout and attended Lowell High School. After graduating college from San Francisco State and Cal Berkeley he went to work at Gruhn Brothers, his family business for 45 years. Steve was a man of simple pleasures, taking joy in the little things in life like spending time with his grandchildren and attending many Cal football and basketball games. As an avid runner and triathlete, Steve was passionate about health and fitness. He was a member of the Orinda Roadrunners for many years, establishing lifetime friendships and touching the lives of everyone he met.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Steve encouraged me when I was a new member of the Roadrunners, admonished me when I strayed and consoled me through the loss of Jill.I'm grateful he, Fazel & Milt included me in their Flanagan calsses. His smile and daily greetings echo still.
