Susan Marie Jones
08/04/1937 - 09/23/2025
Susan Marie (Warrick) Jones died peacefully at home in Half Moon Bay on September 23, 2025. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on August 4, 1937, to John and Mary Lucille (Roesner) Warrick. Sue was a warm and generous person with a delightful sense of humor. Sue loved hosting dinners and playing games with family, meeting friends for lunch, and attending activities with her grandchildren, who she indulged. She also treasured her beloved kitties.
As a young child, Sue's family lived in Detroit where her father worked in the defense plants during WWII. After moving back to Toledo, Sue graduated from Catholic High School, and graduated early from the University of Toledo with a degree in medical technology. After spending a year in medical school at the University of Cincinnati, Sue's adventurous spirit led her to Eastern Airlines, where she earned flight attendant wings - which were pinned on by famed pilot, Eddie Rickenbacker. Her flights were primarily in turboprop planes, flying to the major cities along the East Coast.
The following year, Sue moved to Los Angeles, where she was hired as a laboratory technologist at the new UCLA Medical Center. In her free time, she and her friends enjoyed folk music at Rosie's Red Banjo and The Troubadour. She also loved watching the Steve Allen Show with her aunt.
Mutual friends introduced her to her future husband, Marine Lt. Brad Jones, who was stationed at the 29 Palms Marine Base. A whirlwind courtship ensued, followed by a boisterous Las Vegas wedding in July 1964. Their son, Eric, was born the next year. That year also saw Brad's unit sent to Vietnam. In 1966, after his return and discharge, the young family moved to the Bay Area, where Sue worked at a San Francisco blood bank and Brad pursued his Master's Degree at UC Berkeley. In 1967, with a new daughter, Laura, in tow, the family moved across the Bay to San Mateo County, where Sue secured a position at Seton Medical Center and Brad at San Mateo County Probation.
The Joneses moved to Half Moon Bay in 1970, where they soon welcomed a second daughter, Nicole. They arranged their work schedules to share care for their growing children. The family enjoyed summer and winter travel to Lake Tahoe, boating on the Delta, and many road trips to visit family in Idaho and other parts of the country. Over the years, Sue and Brad made many good friends who they met for barbeques, parties and annual get-togethers to pick Halloween pumpkins and cut Christmas trees.
Later, when the children were off to college and embarking on their own careers, they savored their retirement together by participating in Elderhostel (Road Scholar) programs throughout the U. S. and cruising in different parts of the world including Alaska, Northern Europe, and New Zealand. Sue also trained for several marathons with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (L&LS), raising funds by completing races in Portland, Los Angeles and Nashville, and later mentored first-time participants.
Sue is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bradford; her children Eric (Christina) Jones, Laura (Tim) Burke, and Nicole (Geoff) Jones-Foster; and eight grandchildren: Audrey, Alton, and Spencer Jones; Samuel, Henry, and Molly Burke; and Sofia and Olivia Foster.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her older sister, Alice Ann Warrick, of the Franciscan Order. Sue's remains will be scattered on the ocean, just off the coastal bluff trail that she loved to walk. Sue and Brad often enjoyed the beautiful view together, while sharing a bench and conversation.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to an animal rescue, L&L Society or a
charity of your choice.
